Bored accountant. Unaccomplished writer. Blind adventurer

To fulfill the hole in my soul I am hitting the road! Or rather, the tracks. Because no one is willing to let someone with my sight operate heavy machinery. So, by plane, train, boat and bus I will be exploring Europe.

When I think of adventure, I don’t think of that hiking and camping nonsense. I think of museums – big, small, general, niche – and old churches way to big and grandiose for their town. I think of wondering around a city for the first time and getting very lost. I think of becoming really good friends with someone new for thirty six hours until we each head in new directions. You know, the free and cheap stuff!

    It’s hot, it’s steamy, it’s Lisbon!

In Lisboa (Lisbon for us English speaking heathens) there is a mural of Saint Lucy. When a man told her he wanted to marry her because of her beautiful eyes, Saint Lucy ripped them out. Amongst other things, she is the patron saint of the blind. The eyeballs in a martini glass is a nice…

I survived the Lisbon Metro – unsupervised

I only used the Lisbon Metro twice; when I arrived to get from the airport to my hostel and when I left to get to the bus station.  Still, it was a different enough experience from how I found the London Underground that I wanted to share.  The Lisbon metro is a lot less friendly…
